Freeform’s The Bold Type has taken TV by storm. It’s my (and many many other women’s) current summer TV obsession, and if it’s not yours it totally should be. Go watch it! Oh so current, fun, and more important than ever, this show tackles topics young women in the professional workforce, and so much more.

So, if like me, 9PM on Tuesdays can’t come fast enough, or you’re just eager for more feel-good and real stories about today’s young women, look no further! I’ve got 4 stories to fill The Bold Type void until next week’s episode.

1. Good Girls Revolt

Set during the late 60s and early 70s in New York, Good Girls Revolt follows the women researchers at News of the Week. These women are the Janes, Kats, and Suttons of their time, based on true history of women trying to win equal pay and equal jobs as the men. I’m almost finished watching this one (only 10 episodes, sadly it was cancelled), and I love it! Watching The Bold Type at the same time really shows just how far us women have come over the years.

2. These Shallow Graves by Jennifer Donnelly

Jo is an aspiring writer living in New York in the 1890s, and her biggest inspiration is none other than investigative journalist Nellie Bly. The death of her father leads her to investigate the cause, and team up with a young newspaper reporter Eddie. I adored this book, and you can check out my review here.

3. Younger

I’ve talked about how much I love Younger before. It’s super binge-worthy and full of strong female characters in the workplace — a publishing company nonetheless! Sutton Foster is incredible, and makes this show heartwarming, hilarious, smart, and current!

4. A Tyranny of Petticoats anthology edited by Jessica Spotswood

I love A Tyranny of Petticoats so much! I can’t believe I never reviewed it here on the blog! There are so many wonderful short stories written by so many incredible female authors. Each story is set during a different time period in American history, and there’s diversity and such great themes throughout. It’s the perfect book to pick up when you have a tiny bit of free time, since the stories are small, but really pack a punch. I’m also thrilled that there’s a sequel anthology releasing this coming March, called The Radical Element!

Those are my recommendations! Do you love The Bold Type as much as I do? Have you read or watched any of my suggestions? Let’s chat in the comments!
