ARC August Sign-Up!

I just discovered this challenge of sorts, and as soon as I saw it I knew that I had to participate. This summer I’ve got the most ARCs ever on my TBR, so I think it was meant to be that I sign up for ARC August!

For more about ARC August, visit Octavia’s post on Read. Sleep. Repeat. As the graphic said, this is the third year that the lovely Octavia has run this brilliant challenge, and I can’t wait to participate!

The Rules:

The rules are very simple

  • It may be a physical ARC or and eARC but it MUST be an ARC
  • Yes it can be an ARC that has released as long as it’s an ARC I’m not going to nit pick much
  • HAVE FUN WITH THIS! Feeling like you are being “forced” to read is the best way turn a fun event into a yucky obligation.
  • Update post! I personally will do a post for each Saturday in August but that’s just me. You can update once a week, every other week or once for the whole darn event. This update can be in the form of a blog or tumblr post, vlog, link to your “ARC August 2015″ shelf or even an instagram pic! I want to make this as easy and low pressure as possible for you.

Goals:

Without giving myself an actual number of books (because that stresses me out), my goal for the challenge is to complete all of my remaining August ARCs, September ARCs, and get a jump start on any ARCs that I happen to have in my possession with later releases also. I think that’s manageable for me!

The Books:

These are the books as of right now, but they’re bound to change when August finally arrives!

  • The Secrets of Lake Road by Karen Katchur (Aug.)
  • Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray (Aug.)
  • Hello, Goodbye, and Everything In Between by Jennifer E. Smith (Sept.)
  • Dream Things True by Marie Marquardt (Sept.)
  • The Weight of Feathers by Anna-Marie McLemore (Sept.)
  • These Shallow Graves by Jennifer Donnelly (Oct.)

Will you be participating in ARC August?

  1. As soon as I saw the title and heard this was a challenge, I was up for it. I really want to do this 🙂 Sounds so much fun!

  2. This is a great idea. I think I might take part and try and get ten ARC’s read. I have some other challenges going on at the same time so that might go down, but I will do my first post in a few days once I have worked out if it’s possible. Good luck 🙂

  3. Oooo I have Lair of Dreams on my list too! I just realized it’s a series (I just found the description on NG to be really interesting) so I’m hoping to get The Diviners read before August!

  4. This sounds awesome, but since I’m still a newbie book blogger (only blogging for 6 months), I have no clue on how to get ARCs! 😛 Any advice?

    1. 6 months is usually the magic number that publishers look for when looking at who they’ll send ARCs to! But as you’re still a newbie, I’d recommend trying out Edelweiss or NetGalley where you can request digital ARCs. You’re more likely to get approved digitally at first! The thing that is really important to remember whether for your profiles on EW or NG, or when emailing a publisher to request a physical ARC is to include your blog stats, amount of time you’ve been blogging, contact info, and social media sites. NG was actually a great resource for me when setting up my “Bio” to send to publishers and keep for my profile. The publishers each have a page that you can visit where they can update their “Approval Preferences” which are all the things they look for in your profile when determining if they’ll approve your request. The more info you provide the better!

I’m by no means an expert on the subject (I still use EW & NG, and I’m only just really starting to get added to lists), so here are some larger book bloggers who’ve written posts all about the topic that are great resources!

Ashley @ Nose Graze has written two posts: 1 & 2
Giselle @ Xpresso Reads discusses in detail the steps of requesting.
Rachel @ A Perfection Called Books has put together a great post of publicity emails to use as a resource once you’re ready!

I hope this helps you out! And the best of luck requesting! If you ever need any help or have more questions feel free to ask! 😉
