Life is still crazy, but about to be crazier!

Week in ReviewI’m back for another Week in Review post! Two weeks in a row? Let’s keep this happening!

As you could probably guess by the title of this post, my life is continuing to be crazy. With what, I can’t quite pinpoint. School, art, errands, the normal day to day things I suppose. I had to do a reality check when I realized that I have just over 100 days until I graduate high school, and just over 150 until I move to college. The days are going by so fast!

Anyway, this past Tuesday was the Season 5 finale of Teen Wolf, and I cried, people. Any other Teen Wolf fans want to cry over the wait to Season 6 with me? The ending was just so happy, and it made my heart happy as a result. ❤

I didn’t get as much reading done as I did last week, but I did read 2 books (as of when I’m writing this post Saturday morning). I finished The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead and All the Feels by Danika Stone. I enjoyed both of them, but they weren’t anything special for me. My review for The Glittering Court will be up early next week, and my review for All the Feels will be on Andye’s blog closer to the release date in June!

I’m just starting Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hesse, which I’m SO excited for. This weekend I’m planning on getting lots of reading done, as I have…wait for it…NO HOMEWORK! I can’t believe I can say that, but it’s true and I’m taking advantage of it! Therefore I’m hoping to read a couple more April releases (I’ve got plenty to choose from): Tell the Wind and Fire by Sarah Rees Brennan, No Love Allowed by Kate Evangelista, A Fierce and Subtle Poison by Samantha Mabry, or Two Summers by Aimee Friedman. Let me know which one you think I should read after I’ve finished Girl in the Blue Coat! There’s a little bit of everything between those four books.

Week in Review: In Which February Leapt to March

Week in Review

It’s been a little over a month since I’ve written one of these posts. What?! But in keeping with my 2016 resolutions, I’m not too worried about it. I said I wouldn’t fault myself for not having a schedule and only posting when I want to, and I’ve kept that so far! Yay for me! I never keep new year’s resolutions, so this is a big deal for me.

Anyway, life has been super busy, as usual. But, unlike usual, I’ve been reading more during the week. Normally I only get around to reading starting Friday afternoon and through the weekend. The past two week’s Wednesdays have been the magic day! Two weeks ago I read In Real Life by Jessica Love in one sitting, and this past week I read Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton in almost one sitting. Crazy! And in between, I managed to read Into the Dim by Janet B. Taylor during the weekend. It may not seem like a lot for some, but for a high school senior, that’s a ton. P.S., if you’re looking for reviews of In Real Life and Rebel of the Sands, they’ll be posting soon! March 10th and March 7th, respectively.

IMG_6188I may have mentioned this before, but I’m taking AP Drawing this year, and it’s crunch time. Any of my free time during the day I’ve been spending in the art room. I’m a super slow worker so this is proving to be quite the challenge. To the right is a little sneak peek at what I’m currently working on!

So that’s pretty much been life lately!

I purged my bookshelves! Finally! It’s been needing to happen for quite some time now, as I just keep acquiring books faster than I can put them on my shelves. I decided to get rid of about 25 books (ARCs and finished copies), to free up some space. They’re all books that I’ve either read and not enjoyed, or books that I don’t plan on ever reading. They’ll probably end up being donated or sold to a used book store. Nothing has happened yet though…

I’ve accumulated quite a bunch of books courtesy of the lovely publishers, and Andye. I was approved for And I Darken by Kiersten White on NetGalley (Thanks Random House!). I’m so flipping excited for this monster of a book! I’ve read some of Kiersten White’s other books and loved, so this was a must-request. I requested Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton and The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead from Penguin through their First to Read program (Thanks!). As I already mention, I’ve already read Rebel of the Sands, and I’m now currently reading The Glittering Court. I forgot to mention in my last WiR that I got Tell the Wind and Fire by Sarah Rees Brennan from HMH (Thank you!). I was approached by Dorian Tsukioka to review another of her fairytale retelling novellas, Spell Bound. I read and enjoyed her first, and was intrigued by the synopsis of this one, so many thanks to her!
ddlqbH1yIMG_6183As physical copies go, I received Two Summers by Aimee Friedman from Scholastic, unsolicited (Thanks!). It looks like a really fun summer read, and I’m excited to get around to it! Andye sent me All the Feels by Danika Stone and A Week of Mondays by Jessica Brody (Thank you bunches, as always!). Both of these contemporaries look right up my alley, so I’m very excited!

The blogosphere has been filled to the brim with incredible posts and events lately, so I thought I’d share some of my favorites with you. Sorry if you’ve seen these already, they’re a bit on the older side now.

Here at Books & Cleverness I’ve been posting quite a bit too!

Wow, this turned out to be a pretty long post! But it’s so nice to be catching up with everyone again. Look for lots more reviews to come soon!

Week in Review: Hey, February (2/1/15)

Week in Review

In Life

Is it just me, or did January seem like it never even happened? Because that’s exactly how it felt to me. I made it through midterms and crazy school stuff, and now I’m making my game-plan for February. It’s pretty much one goal: stop being so stressed. Stress is my downfall; we don’t mix well.

How To Get Away With Murder, my current TV obsession, just came back on after a two-month hiatus and OH MY GOSH. It just keeps getting better! If I’m not reading as much in the coming weeks, this show will be why.

Today is Superbowl Sunday, which means that while the game is on I’ll most likely be sitting in my room reading because I am NOT a football fan. I don’t see the point of it to be honest. If someone does, “enlighten me then.” <– Bad Fifty Shades of Grey movie trailer reference — sorry.

I’m actually really looking forward to February because my blogiversary is on February 7th, as is my dad’s birthday, and my February break is this month! Yay for more days off of school! My parents and I are thinking of scheduling some college visits for that week, which I’m quite excited about. I also entered a art scholarship contest for one of the schools I’m interested in so wish me luck everybody! 😉

Sweet by Emmy Laybourne (Thanks to Macmillan!)

I squealed so hard when I saw that I was approved for this one! I’m really excited about this one and even though I requested it on NetGalley I never actually thought I would be approved so AH YAY!! It looks really unique and unlike anything I’ve ever read before so as I’ve said before — I can’t wait!

Recent, Current & Upcoming Reads

RECENT: Diamonds in the Rough by Michelle Madow | I thought this was a really great sequel to the first book, The Secret Diamond Sisters. My review will be posted tomorrow!

CURRENT: The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma | I started this one last night, and I’m really intrigued by it. It’s being pitched as “Orange Is the New Black Swan.”

UPCOMING: Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas | I’M FINALLY DOING IT GUYS. I’M FINALLY READING IT.

Week in Review

In Life

I feel like each Week in Review post I write is just me apologizing for the lack of posts and complaining about school, but this will be the last time, I promise. But seriously, MIDTERMS! Who made these a “thing” because they are torture, and studying takes up ALL of my time. I picked up my book for the first time in about a week and a half yesterday and it was joyous. Lately I feel like every waking moment I’m focused on school, or some school related thing, like most recently I’ve been really anxious about college. I’m the only child in my family, so my parents are pretty much clueless when it comes to the college process, and my counselor and school hasn’t really helped much. So I’m freaking out about where in the process I should be right now, and nervous that I won’t be able to schedule visits in during breaks, etc., etc. Life is hard…

BUT ENOUGH COMPLAINING EMILY.

I am determined to push through! I’ve decided that I will make time for blogging and reading every Friday evening and Saturday morning. Hopefully this will keep me posting regularly. Also, I have lots of discussion ideas but I’m both too lazy and too busy to write and edit them so that they’re ready for posting. This shall change, my friends!

Life Unaware by Cole Gibsen (Thanks to Entangled Teen!)
Volition by Lily Paradis (Thanks to Empire Books!)
I can’t wait to read both of these. Life Unaware seems like something different than I normally read, and I’ve been waiting to get my hands on Volition for such a long time!!

Recently Finished, Currently Reading & Reading Soon!

Yesterday I finished reading Salt & Stone by Victoria Scott and I LOVED it! This series is so intense. You can check out my review here on the blog on February 10th!

I haven’t decided what to read next at the moment, but I think it will probably be a review copy that’s been sitting around a while.

After THAT, I’m planning on picking up a book that will go toward my Dusting off the Shelf Reading Challenge. Have no idea what that will be yet either!

Week in Review

In Life

IMG_4976Well, this was my first full week back to school from Christmas break. Man was I tired. Two weeks off and it was like it was the length of summer! I’m happy to be back at a regular schedule, though. It will be busy, but much better for keeping at blogging on a regular basis!

I was hoping for a “cold day” off from school mid-week as windchills were supposed to reach -25 degrees, but unfortunately for us, they only went down to about -20, so still school. It’s been very snowy, icey, and freezing, so I’ve been cuddled under a blanket for pretty much every activity I try an do, whether it be homework or reading a book. Hot vanilla chai has been my best friend throughout the winter…ahhhh.

I got a Barnes & Noble gift card after the holidays from my “Aunt” so obviously it’s already gone! Thanks so much!

IMG_4985The White Queen by Philippa Gregory
Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill

I’ve been meaning to buy both of these for so long and so I basically just grabbed them without a second thought, which is unusual for me and buying books. I normally plan long and hard about what I spend gift cards or money on book-wise.

Recently Finished & Currently Reading

I just finished Friday night, the last short story in My True Love Gave to Me edited by Stephanie Perkins (review link below). I was really pleased with it, although I have no idea why it took me so long to get through it?!

Yesterday I started reading Salt & Stone by Victoria Scott, the sequel to Fire & Flood, which I LOVED. Not very far in yet, but based off of the last one, this series will help you bridge the gap between Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2 (which I just saw Part 1 last week! — link to me review of the movie below).
