Way back in 2014, I did the Taylor Swift Book Tag. Since then, it’s arguably been one of my most viewed posts, and it’s one of my favorites here on the blog! I thought I’d adapt the 1989 and (beginning of) the reputation eras into the book tag! If you haven’t heard her new music, listen and then come back! Her new album releases in 10 DAYS I CAN’T WAIT.
I also want to take a minute to acknowledge Taylor’s incredible narrative skill. Each of her music videos are so incredibly detailed and tell such full stories. We need to get a fiction novel from her sometime, please! She’s proven she can totally handle ANY subgenre.
Welcome to New York
“the lights are so bright, but they never blind me”
Name your favorite city or setting for a book, real or fictional.
Actually, New York City! I’ve never been, but I love the way it’s portrayed in all of the books I read. Also, any book set on the coast by a beach! I love to escape when I’m reading, so places that I’ve never been, or wish I could visit more often are always my favorites. If we’re talking fictional worlds, I mean, Hogwarts, obviously!
“they tell me I’m insane”
Name your favorite book with an unreliable narrator.
Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas. This was one of the first mysteries that actually blew my mind. When I say blew my mind, I mean it — I was in complete shock when I finished it! You’ll immediately be able to tell if you check out my review (linked above).
“and when we go crashing down, we come back every time”
Name your favorite couple who’s had their ups and downs, but in the end stay together.
Kestrel and Arin from The Winner’s Curse will always be one of my all-time favorite OTPs. These two made my heart ache and soar, pretty much from the moment the two were introduced. I don’t know anyone that doesn’t like these two together.
Out of the Woods
“are we out of the woods yet…are we in the clear yet?”
Name your favorite book where the main character is tested.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, anyone? This gif from her music video is giving me major Triwizard Tournament vibes when Harry is in the maze!
“now we got bad blood, you know it used to be mad love”
Name your favorite pair of enemies or rivals.
I have to go with the Darkling and Alina from the Grisha trilogy for this one. He’s such a complex character, making their conflict so emotional and full of depth, which I totally wasn’t expecting when I started this series.
“say you’ll see me again, even if it’s just pretend”
Name your favorite whirlwind romance, that ended too soon.
*SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE THRONE OF GLASS BOOKS*
Okay so this was hard for me, but I ultimately went with Celaena and Chaol from the Throne of Glass series. Now, I haven’t read past book two, but I can see things are on a downward spiral for them. Plus, I’ve been a bit unsuccessful at avoiding spoilers, so I hear that they’re future is not bright. BUT THEY WERE MY ULTIMATE SHIP! </3
I Know Places
“they are the hunters, we are the foxes, and we run”
Name your favorite character that’s on the run.
On a bit of a heavier note: Hanneke from Girl in the Blue Coat and all of the characters from Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys. Both of these books take place during WWII, and all of these characters are forced to flee for their lives. Both of these books are so emotional, and each of these characters are so special.
“the rain came pouring down when I was drowning; that’s when I could finally breathe; and by morning gone was any trace of you; I think I am finally clean”
Share your favorite book about new beginnings.
I would say that Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley is about new beginnings. I absolutely adored this beautiful book…
Look What You Made Me Do
“I’ll be the actress starring in your bad dreams”
Who’s your favorite anti-hero, that owns their reputation?
Imogen from Genuine Fraud, at the moment. I can’t say much more for fear of spoiling. Just read the book and your mind will be blown!
…Ready For It?
“Baby, let the games begin…Let the games begin”
Name your favorite character who takes back what’s theirs.
For this one, I’m going with The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh. Shazi is a total badass and flips her situation to her advantage right from the beginning. No one can mess with her!
“You should take it as a compliment…That I got drunk and made fun of the way you talk”
Name a relationship that began with flirtatious teasing.
Can I count Blackhearts by Nicole Castroman? I really really loved Anne and Teach from the very early stages of the book BECAUSE BANTER!!!
Everyone is welcome to do this one if you’d like, just please credit me for this version of the tag, and the original tag’s creator! I wasn’t planning to post this yet, but I couldn’t wait! Taylor’s been on my mind more than is healthy recently, haha.
Also, Happy Halloween! I hope everyone is doing well! A little personal note: I’m almost done with my first semester of sophomore year already — it’s flown by. I’ll be going home in a couple of weeks so I’m hoping to do lots of reading and blogging. But until then, have a lovely day! 🙂 ❤
